CSHS Webinar:

Natural Channel Design: Lessons and Opportunities in Failure

Date: October 23, 2023

Failures are wonderful learning opportunities; they’re great illustrations of what *not* to do. In that spirit, this webinar presented three repeat presentations from the 2023 Conference on Natural Channel Systems. All three presentations show a failure in natural channel design in either form or function: either through erosion of the feature or by barring fish passage. The first two are modern examples of natural channel design and the third is a potential natural channel design to restore fish passage.

Presentation #1: Lessons Learned: Design Considerations for Long Term Stability and Function of Riffles in ‘Natural’ Channel Design

Presentation #2: Anatomy of a Failed Stream Restoration Project in BC

Presentation #3: Restoring Fish Passage in the Eagle River after 100 Years

Presenters are, in order of appearance, Chris Cummings, CON-CISEC, Matrix Solutions Inc., Brad Fairley, MES, 5 Smooth Stones Restoration and Lucas Warner, M.Sc., P.Bio., 5 Smooth Stones Restoration.  The webinar includes a Q&A session with each presenter.
