In collaboration with the CWRA – Manitoba Branch, CSHS is offered a one-hour webinar at 1pm (EDT) on July 28th to demonstrate three tools and data available to Canadian Water Resource Professionals.

1. The Reference Hydrometric Basin Network (RHBN) 2020 release – Jennifer Pellerin (Environment and Climate Change Canada)

The RHBN provides a set of long streamflow records with negligible human influence. Controlling for human influence allows the exploration of other sources of streamflow trends such as climate change-related watershed processes (e.g. permafrost, glacier, and snowmelt changes). Details of this network, how it is being renewed, and resulting trends will be presented.

2. Enhancements to the Kenue Technologies – Alan Barton (National Research Council)

The Kenue Technologies have been providing valuable tools to Canadian practitioners for the past 20 years. One example of this is the ECCC Data Explorer, which gives easy, GIS-based, and free access to historical streamflow data. Recent and upcoming improvements to these tools will be described and practical examples of their use will be demonstrated.

3. GIS-based Unit Hydrograph for Flood Mapping in Ungauged Catchments in New Brunswick  – Achraf Hentati (Université de Moncton; Higher Institute of Water Sciences and Technologies of Gabes, Tunisia)

Recently, New Brunswick has experienced frequent flood episodes, especially in 2018 and 2019. Understanding the hydrological response of a catchment is necessary in order to create flood hazard maps using hydraulic models. How can we predict the flood hydrographs in ungauged catchments in New Brunswick? The topography of a catchment can be used as a parameter to describe its hydrological characteristics. In this webinar, we will present a GIS-based approach to derive a Synthetic Unit Hydrograph (SUH) from the topography of the catchment using a digital elevation model (DEM).
